Integrated Thematic Instruction: A case study.
Scope and method of study. The purpose of this study was to examine the educational philosophy of Integrated Thematic Instruction in a school setting. The laboratory school used in the study was Thoreau Middle School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The researcher developed a working definition of holistic education. The researcher also developed a definition of traditional education. Once these definitions were established, they were applied to the philosophy of Integrated Thematic Instruction. This study looked to discover whether, when practiced in a real -life school situation, Integrated Thematic Instruction was a holistic educational philosophy, a traditional educational philosophy, or a unique educational philosophy. A qualitative method, case study, was employed to research the philosophy of Integrated Thematic Instruction and describe it.
