Teaching online: Toward a development of an understanding of the personal teaching efficacy of online teachers.
Teacher efficacy is a well-accepted construct among educational researchers investigating teacher beliefs. Teacher efficacy is generally believed to be composed of general teacher efficacy (GTE) and personal teaching efficacy (PTE). The former is focused on teachers' perceptions about teachers' abilities in general to affect changes while the latter focuses on teachers' perceptions about their own individual abilities to complete tasks successfully. Past teacher efficacy research has indicated that teacher efficacy is both domain and context specific. The purpose of this study was to examine PTE within the context of an online classroom since the online classroom represents a possible, different domain or context from the traditional classroom.
