Analysis of heat transfer and residual stress formation during hot plate welding of polycarbonate.
The primary objective of this thesis is to investigate the heat flow and residual stress formation during hot plate welding of polycarbonate. Numerical modeling of the welding process is performed in a de-coupled manner based on the assumption that the temperature solution is not affected by the stress-strain solution. This de-coupled method separates the analysis into two independent domains and solves them individually. First, thermal analysis is performed, and then it is followed by viscoelastic stress- strain analysis. The temperature history obtained from the heat transfer analysis is used as a prescribed load field in the subsequent viscoelastic stress-strain analysis.
